Exquisitely remodeled 4-bedroom, 2-bath, 2-story home with wonderful bay, Golden Gate and San Francisco views, loads of natural light, and excellent indoor/outdoor flow. In a lovely natural setting with a deep, terraced and landscaped front yard featuring mature plantings, a magnificent oak tree, and an inviting front deck leading to an elegant entryway. Located in the leafy Merriwood neighborhood, minutes to Montclair’s fine shopping and restaurants.

The contemporary Craftsman-style remodel was completed in 2008 by award-winning Berkeley architect Gary Parsons, with great sensitivity to the rustic setting and views. It features exceptionally pleasing, serene horizontal lines and the use of natural materials, such as sleek honed granite in the kitchen, honed slate in the living room, warm red oak flooring, and lots of furniture-quality fir trim, including the elegant fireplace mantlepiece and built-in bookshelves. The upper-level floor plan provides bright, welcoming spaces for relaxed entertaining, with a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows framing the verdant surroundings and the bay, unique, striking gas fireplace, high vaulted ceilings, and French doors from the dining room to the broad upper deck,. Additional natural light is provided by two magical, almost-hidden skylights and thoughtfully designed light fixtures. The kitchen is very large and beautiful, with a generous supply of cabinets and drawers, a six-burner gas stove, and a breakfast area overlooking the front yard. There are two bedrooms with good-sized closets, plus a recently updated full bath on this level.

The lower level includes the primary suite as well as a fourth bedroom perfect for a home office. The roomy sunken family room has tall casement windows and French doors to the two lower decks and backyard, and there is a well-equipped laundry room with sink and work table also on this level.

This lovely home is three minute's drive from the Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve. Other nearby parks include Montclair Playground, Round Top Regional Park, and Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve.

Neighborhood

If you haven't been to Oakland recently, then you don't know Oakland! Often referred to as the Brooklyn of the Bay, Oakland has long been known for its vibrant food and art scene. Incorporated in 1852, Oakland grew quickly because of fertile soil for agriculture and its location. The city was selected as a terminus for the Transcontinental Railroad and was at the receiving end of the first cross-country airmail flight thanks to Captain Eddie Rickenbacker of WWI fame. Today Oakland is the busiest port in Northern California and 8th busiest container port in the United States.

The city has a rich and diverse history, as the birthplace of the Black Panther Party, the Mai Tai, and VP Kamala Harris. This cultural hub is home to thriving neighborhoods, numerous open spaces like Redwood Regional Park, worldclass healthcare and education, and a high concentration of artists. Oakland is an amazing place to live and work!
